Reading never requires an account. A few first-party, anonymized chapter events help the author understand engagement with mathematical questions and the overall effect of course-level sharing.
Chapter number, language, UTC visit-start date, short-lived anonymous visit, active time, highest position reached in the chapter body, the 50/75/90% thresholds, next-chapter clicks, subsequent chapter opens, and optional interest categories. This does not measure word-by-word reading or understanding.
The initial engaged-reading criterion is at least90 seconds of active time and at least50% highest body position within one visit. Jumping to the end is not complete reading, and engagement is not proof of comprehension. Daily, weekly and monthly summaries are attributed to the visit-start date.
Hidden tabs and unfocused windows accrue no active time. Time pauses after two minutes without keyboard, pointer or touch activity, so prolonged quiet reading may be underestimated. Refreshes reuse a chapter visit; reopening after more than30 minutes idle can begin a new visit. Devices, private browsing, blocked storage and filtering affect estimates.
A random browser identifier rotates daily. The server retains only a keyed digest grouped by day. A date-range total is a sum of anonymous visitor-days, without cross-day deduplication; it is not a count of distinct people. There is no long-term cross-site identifier.
The reading database stores no visitor names, emails, raw IP addresses, precise locations, full referrer URLs, full UTM parameters, user-agent strings or free text. Automation indicators may be checked transiently without being written to reading tables. Hosting may process request information for its own security, operation and sign-in; that is separate from the author's reading database.
Only registered public course-level channel codes, such as ?utm_source=university-course, are retained; unknown values become Other. Do not put student names, emails or student numbers in campaign parameters. All content remains readable without campaign parameters.
Once enabled in production, events are stored in this Site's Cloudflare D1. Only the server-authorized author dashboard can read summaries and export CSV. The latest90 UTC days are retained; older records are removed at the next collection or dashboard query. Data is not used for advertising or individual student profiles. Interest feedback is optional and offers no free-text field.
Local files and offline reading send no events. Development and test data use a separate local database and do not count as production readership. Uncollected metrics show No data. Sites platform traffic and chapter-reading events are managed separately.
Sites supplies its own unique visitors, page views, requests, trends and popular paths in a platform-protected author console. These use different definitions from chapter-reading events; platform page views are not engaged reading or understanding. The opt-out below controls this book's chapter collector only, not hosting-platform request processing for operation, security or native analytics.
The chapter collector respects Do Not Track (DNT) and Global Privacy Control (GPC). You may also disable reading statistics on this browser below. This never changes access to text, mathematics, diagrams or navigation.
